Re-building Trust:
There has been so much dis-trust around and within the SD61 board table. My focus will be the re-establishing of relationships and trust around the board table, and with all the district’s rightsholders and stakeholders. Whether the loss of trust happened overtime, or quickly, the building back will take time, patience, and meaningful engagement. This is paramount for the board to move forward effectively. Each time the parties feel heard and can see their influence have an impact on decision making, will be one step closer to rebuilding that loss of trust and relationship. This will strengthen the boards’ ability to stay crystal clear on their focus, of the students being their number one priority in decision making.
My Vision:
The School District is an all-inclusive learning community, where our students, teachers, educational assistants, parents, guardians, clerical and custodial staff, district admin and staff, rightsholders, and stakeholders feel supported, heard, and see themselves in the decisions made at the board level. There is a trusted relationship with the board. There is adequate funding for special needs students that allows equitable access to education and learning opportunities. Mental health supports are strongly in place and flow seamlessly and are available for those who need it. Our schools are safe and welcoming for all our LGBTQIAS2+ students. Trustees are using their voices and advocacy efforts, while remembering that students are the central anchor point for budget and policy decisions that are explored and made.
Biographie
I am a mom of two high school students in SD61. I am also a proud graduate of the SD61 system. I am ready for the responsibility that comes along with using my voice and advocacy efforts for students and their learning community. I will arrive and be ready to sit around the table with an open mind and open heart and ready to work towards a governance structure that is transparent and accountable, with meaningful engagement processes; to advocate for proper and adequate funding for special needs student; to focus on mental health and wraparound services; and to ensure our schools are inclusive and safe spaces for all our LGBTQIA2S+ students.

Raison de la candidature
I have first-hand, lived experience as a parent with a child needing learning supports. My work experience in stakeholder relations for the K-12 sector allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the role each stakeholder and level play in the system. I believe I have a solid foundation on which I can base my advocacy efforts on behalf of all students and families of SD61.
