Ramon Bandong is a first generation Filipino-Canadian and a 23-year Surrey resident. In 1986, when Ramon was 15, his political outlook was forever changed during the People Power Movement in Manila. His family then left for Canada, with everything they owned packed into 15 suitcases. His parents sold their successful business, and then faced the struggles of many new immigrants. His parent’s Filipino credentials as a chemical engineer and nutritionist were not recognized; therefore, they had to do whatever work was available to feed their family. As a newcomer, Ramon faced racism and had very limited opportunities. This led him to become a strong advocate of interracial harmony, inclusion, and diversity. He wants to optimize his financial background to improve cost of living affordability. As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, he is fighting for his family and all Surrey families.
