OUR PLATFORM
Surrey is a growing city with 1200 people/month making Surrey their home. Although the student seats have grown, they have not kept pace with the population projections. We need to ensure that we have the resources necessary to meet our mission.
Our three main goals are:
INSPIRE PARTNERS TO CREATE SAFE AND HEALTHY CLASSROOMS
- Promote physical and emotional health (e.g. address bullying, trauma and vaping in washrooms)
- Create partnerships with communities to have more counsellors and social work supports for students and families
- Ensure students are not hungry so they can focus on learning
BE ACCOUNTABLE AND TRANSPARENT
- Provide direction to become connected community schools (e.g. work with the City and community organizations to create afterschool programs)
- Open door policy: listen to students, staff, parents and community
- Advocate for dual credit courses (students can get credit for high school and university at the same time)
PROVIDE RESOURCES FOR LEARNING
- Funding for new schools, staff and computer access and supports
- Support diverse learners (e.g. learning supports for special needs students)
- Provide resources to address the trauma experienced by students and staff to create caring classrooms
