Biographie
Janet is running for Burnaby City Council to bring stronger financial discipline, accountability and practical, evidence informed decision making to City Hall.
After nearly a decade in Vancouver and Toronto, she built her career in Hong Kong, first in senior compliance roles with international financial institutions and later as a government regulator.
Her work included policy development, public consultation, risk assessment and requiring firms to remedy regulatory weaknesses and breaches. She holds degrees in Law and in Accounting and Finance, together with an EMBA.
Since returning to Burnaby a few years ago, Janet has been an active community volunteer, spending significant time reviewing City and FOI records, speaking with residents and examining how major decisions affect neighborhoods.
Janet wants to bring the discipline and experience of a regulator to City Hall by listening to residents before major directions are set, identifying risks early, taking action before problems become costly, and ensuring decisions stand up to scrutiny.
Among her priorities are:
1. Affordability and value: promote responsible taxation and careful use of public funds.
2. Safe, livable growth: support better coordination between growth, transportation and infrastructure.
3. Safer communities: support practical measures that strengthen public safety and neighborhood well-being.
4. Jobs and opportunity: support a stronger local economy and more opportunities for younger residents.
5. Better decision making: promote evidence informed policies, accountability and a stronger focus on result.
