My name is VINCENT M TONG, and I'm running for BURNABY CITY COUNCILLOR
I’m a Burnaby resident, Metrotown homeowner, and public service professional with nine years of experience serving British Columbians. Through my work in homelessness, disability and healthcare services, and economic immigration, I’ve had the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and see firsthand the challenges facing individuals, families, and communities.
I’m running for Burnaby City Council because I believe local government should be practical, responsive, and focused on the everyday needs of residents. Burnaby is growing quickly, and we need to ensure our city remains affordable, safe, welcoming, and a place where people can build their lives and families.
KEEPING BURNABY SAFE
Everyone should feel safe in their neighbourhood, on transit, in our parks and in public spaces. I support making sure Burnaby has adequate police and frontline resources as our population grows. I also support practical action on homelessness through more supportive housing, shelters, mental health and addiction services, and trained frontline workers who can connect people with the help they need.
KEEPING BURNABY AFFORDABLE
Burnaby should remain a place where working people, families, young people and seniors can afford to live. I support keeping property taxes and City fees reasonable, reducing unnecessary bureaucracy and waste, and making sure residents receive good value for their tax dollars. I also support more affordable and non-market housing, family-sized homes and a wider range of housing choices.
KEEPING BURNABY GREEN
Growth should not come at the expense of the parks, trees and green spaces that make our neighbourhoods enjoyable places to live. I support protecting and expanding Burnaby’s tree canopy, improving our parks and creating more recreational and dog-friendly spaces where possible. New housing should be planned alongside the infrastructure, public services and green space needed to support a growing population.
Most importantly, I believe good local government starts with listening. I won’t pretend to have every answer, but I will listen to residents, consider different perspectives, ask questions, and work collaboratively toward practical solutions. Whether you’re a renter, homeowner, senior, young person, or raising a family, your voice matters in determining the future of our city.

I’m running to bring a fresh perspective to Burnaby: improving public safety, addressing homelessness, protecting green spaces, reducing government waste, and most importantly, listening to residents and acting on what our community needs.
I believe Burnaby needs City Councillors who will listen to residents, ask tough questions and focus on practical solutions. I bring 9 years of BC Public Service experience, including over 5 years working directly with people experiencing homelessness, people with disabilities, newcomers, youth at risk and families facing financial hardship.
My priorities are keeping Burnaby safe, affordable and green. I support adequate public safety resources, practical solutions to homelessness, responsible housing growth, protection of our parks and trees, and careful use of taxpayer dollars. As Burnaby grows, I want to make sure our infrastructure and public services grow with it.
Most importantly, I believe residents deserve to be heard. I will listen to neighbourhood concerns, ask questions when something does not make sense, and push for greater transparency and accountability at City Hall.
I’m not running to represent a political party. I’m running as an Independent to bring my public service experience, frontline perspective and practical approach to the decisions that affect Burnaby residents every day.
