Though all of us use generative AI to a certain extent and certain simulations for weather patterns and geological movements is essential. Like there could have been early prediction and sufficient warning to mitigate the catastrophic disaster of the glacier break away in Nepal. However data centres contribute to noise pollution , are water and energy intensive . I our progressive year after dry situation with less snow cap cover we require major data-centre proposals to disclose electricity use, emissions, water consumption, backup generation and renewable sourcing, and to be powered by renewable, low-carbon electricity.
This means improving insulation, ventilation, cooling, and energy efficiency while preparing homes for cleaner heating. A phased, practical approach can reduce energy costs, protect residents from extreme heat and cold, and avoid costly upgrades. At the same time ensure support so retrofits remain affordable for homeowners and renters.

Green Space

The municipalities of Abbotsford, Lytton and Peachland tell a tale about who bears the brunt for climate change. Burnaby has significantly made us climate ready. With urban forests we need to further manage wildfire risk and ecological stabilization by protection of degraded streams, wetlands, riparian areas and habitat. We must increase our Canopy coverage not only in neighbourhoods with low tree canopy and high heat exposure but along pedestrian, walking and transit routes. Make all new builds climate resilient with the possibility of heat pump installation. Have an inventory of portable air conditioners/ fans to lend in extreme heat events.

Housing & Homelessness
Affordability
Promesse de Tara Shushtarian
Mandate the Burnaby Housing Authority to build 1,500 new below market rental units annually using a repeatable cost effective construction model. Allow townhomes, low-rise apartments up to four storeys in residential areas to create more family housing. Meaningful tenant protection by displacement. Support more frequent, direct TransLink bus service, so that people can rely on public transportation rather than driving. Advocate for low-income transit passes for vulnerable citizens. Also improve access to affordable food by allowing local-serving grocery stores on corner lots, supporting community gardens, and ensuring every neighbourhood has access to community fridges, food programs, and food hubs.

Good Governance

We need varied housing and public infrastructure. Expand pre-approved building designs for quick permitting of a range of multiplexes, townhouses, and lowrises, including many designs for pre-fabrication modular construction to enable greater affordability and faster construction. Ensure every street has a connected, accessible sidewalk and a robust cycling network. School construction to keep pace with growth. Create free, accessible public spaces where communities can gather. Develop four distinct cultural and entertainment centres, each built around its local businesses, institutions, parks, public spaces and transit connections. Build accessibility into public spaces, sidewalks, crossings, parks and city facilities as a design requirement .
Public Safety & Policing
Non-Police-Based Public Safety
Promesse de Tara Shushtarian
Gang related violence , indiscriminate vandalism and sexual predatory behaviour are a threat to public safety. Ensure police can focus on responding where there is criminal activity. At risk youth and the houseless need other support. Establish a non-police response model for appropriate non-violent mental-health and wellness calls, built with health workers, crisis professionals, peer-support workers and people with lived experience.
