  • Set up an independent citizens assembly to advice on how best to put in place a Mixed-Member Proportional Representation system in time for the next federal election

"We will fix Canada’s broken voting system and make every vote count. For too long, our electoral system has distorted results and denied millions of Canadians real representation. In 2025, New Democrats will make sure it’s the last election held under this outdated, unfair system—ten years after the Liberals promised change and failed to act.

Unlike the Liberals, we will actually deliver. We will establish an independent citizens assembly to advise on how best to put in place a Mixed-Member proportional system in time for the next federal election. This will ensure that the next Parliament truly reflects the choices of voters."

  • Lower the voting age to 16

"We will change the voting age to allow 16 and 17-year olds to vote. Young people should have a stronger say in choosing their government and addressing the issues that affect them and their futures. Bringing more voices into politics will ensure that better decisions are made, and will ultimately result in a stronger democracy." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Ensure Indigenous languages are on election ballots in Indigenous territories

"We will make voting more accessible to people living in Inuit, First Nations or Métis communities by ensuring that Indigenous languages are on election ballots in Indigenous territories. This is a concrete step we can take towards meaningful reconciliation, and it will boost participation in democracy as well as contributing towards the revitalization of Indigenous languages." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Guarantee a 3-day voting period for each election, in addition to advance voting polls
  • Strengthen Elections Canada's Vote on Campus programming

"[...] and strengthening Election Canada's Vote on Campus programming to ensure elections are accessible to university and college students." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

NPD

  • Reject cuts to the public sector and social programmes in order to balance the budget

"New Democrats are rejecting calls for cuts to the public sector and to social programs – cuts which would be made to reach a budgetary balance in the short-term, despite the costs and the consequences for people. Instead, we are proposing increased investments in both infrastructure and in people." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Set aside an additional 10% of the budget each year as a contingency fund to hedge against risks like external shocks

"In the context of significant uncertainty, and in an abundance of caution, our fiscal plan will set aside an additional amount each year as a contingency fund. This will help hedge against risks, including further external shocks or events that could reduce government revenue and increase expenditures more than anticipated." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Begin decreasing the debt-to-GDP ratio within four years

"The NDP’s fiscal target over a four-year mandate is a falling debt-GDP ratio by the fourth year at the latest. After accounting for the impact of revenue and expense measures on the economy via the fiscal multiplier, this is achieved even under the more dire scenario considered by the BoC." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Strengthen the role of Commons standing committees in reviewing and approving government estimates

"We are also committed to bringing greater transparency and accountability to the federal budget-making process. This includes strengthening the role of House of Commons standing committees in reviewing and approving government estimates. Canadians deserve to know not just where their money is going—but whether it’s actually delivering results." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Government spending

Alberta has overpaid into the federal equalization program a staggering $ 83 billion dollars, 2007 to 2025. PPC believes that some if not all of that money should be returned to Alberta in the form of infrastructure developments. Fort McMurray and our oil sand are the key economic driver of the Canadian Economy. Fort McMurray and Cold Lake are the gateway to the north, Canada economic engine and are strategically positioned in Canada from a national security perspective. PPC believes that Fort McMurray should have an International Airport with a 2nd runway of over 10,000 ft. to accommodate wide body transport planes for both commercial, domestic and national security.

PPC also believes its not too much to ask the federal government for funding, to twin Hwy 28 from Hwy 63 to Edmonton. And build a paved Hwy designated as a heavy haul corridor from Fort McMurray to Grande Prairie, and the Peace region. We believe investments like this are common sense and in the best interest of Alberta and Canada in such uncertain global times. Theses investments are compatible with the PPC Plan to increase Canada’s military budget to 3% of GDP. Elections are about choices. The movement of goods, especially food and agricultural products are vital within Canada.

  • Immigration

PPC believes that all immigration should be economic based, that recognizes an immigrant’s credentials from professionals to tech workers, trades workers, other skilled workers and business entrepreneurs. Granting them fast vetted access to Canada, if they are fluent in the English Language. PPC will enact a moratorium of 5 years on unskilled immigrants and the high cost of refugees until Canada fiscal position is back to balance, and we are reducing the federal debt.

The current Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process is slow, inconsistent, and lacks an appeal mechanism, creating unnecessary barriers for businesses facing critical labour shortages.

  • Maintain the capital gains inclusion rate changes the current government introduced

"We will maintain the capital gains inclusion rate changes which the Liberal government flip flopped on, and was opposed all along by the Conservatives. As the Minister of Finance said at the time, “only 0.13 per cent of Canadians—with an average annual income of $1.4 million—will be affected by this change in any given year. But millions more, especially younger Canadians, will benefit from it.”" — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Tax income from flipping stocks at the same rate as income from wages

"Income from flipping stocks should not be taxed at a lower rate than the wages earned by a nurse, a carpenter, a pipefitter, or a teacher. We will rebalance the tax system to ensure it values work as much as wealth." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Set a graduated wealth tax of 1% for wealth between $10M and $50M, 2% from $50M to $100M, and 3% for households with net worth over $100M

"For those at the very top, super-rich multi-millionaires with over $10 million in wealth holdings, we will put in place a graduated wealth tax of 1% for wealth between $10 million and $50 million, 2% from $50 million to $100 million, and 3% for households with net worth over $100 million." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Set a 2% surtax on corporations earning over $500M in profits

  • Set a 15% minimum tax on corporate book profits
  • End tax agreements with known tax havens
  • Require corporations to prove a genuine business reason for offshore accounts
  • Increase funding for the Canada Revenue Agency by $200M to help enforce laws against corporate tax avoidance

"We will take additional measures to tackle corporate tax avoidance, including instituting a 15% minimum tax on corporate book profits, ending tax agreements with known tax havens, requiring corporations to prove a genuine business reason for offshore accounts, and providing additional resources to the Canada Revenue Agency to step up enforcement." — ndp.ca, retrieved 2025-04-19

  • Policy platform

PPC People’s Party of Canada has the boldest policy platform in the 2025 Federal Election to grow the Canadian economy. Canada has been in economic decline since the turn of this Century. 2005 to 2015 minimal GDP growth 1.4% and 2015 to 2025 1.3% GDP growth. Starting at the top, PPC plans to cut and right size the Federal Government from the current 35 ministry departments down to 18 ministry departments. This needed reform will automatically cut wasteful spending and reduce costly unnecessary regulation (red tape) that is choking our economy. According to the Treasury Department there were 367,772 federal employees 2024. A 43% increase since 2015 under a liberal government. The Conservatives voted for the liberals massive covid spending, and new unconstitutional programs that intrude on Alberta’s provincial jurisdiction. That increased our federal debt to $1.4 Trillion from $640 Billion thus bloating the size of our federal government. Of the G35 countries Canada has the costliest government at 62% per person of GDP. PPC pledges to lower the cost of government to the G35 average of 24% per person of GDP by 2030.

PPC will create a new Department of Government Downsizing within a new Ministry of Electoral Reform, Rightsizing Government and the Senate. Eliminate the deficit and balance the budget within a year of taking office. By drastically cutting budgets and eliminating wasteful programs like corporate welfare, foreign aid, equalization payments, the Canada Infrastructure Bank, the Strategic Innovation fund and all other programs that duplicate provincial programs or intrude on provincial jurisdiction.

PPC government is committed to giving full autonomy to the provinces and granting the provinces control of revenue collections and disbursements to help reign in Federal wasteful spending. With the provinces controlling the budgeting process and monetary allocations to the federal government. PPC will enact balance budget and debt control legislation on the federal government to focus spending on core federal jurisdictions and responsibilities.

PPC Cutting Red Tape is a major priority of the People’s Party. Currently our economy is plagued by costly and excessive regulations that can be felt through our whole economy top to bottom costing approximately $15 billion annually.

PPC is fully committed to major tax reform both corporate and domestic to drive investment here in Canada. Taxes plain and simple are a wage cut and an economic investment deterrent! In the end creates a lower living standard and collapses business investment.

PPC will eliminate all corporate welfare in favour of one flat corporate tax rate in Canada to attract resource industries, tech industries and bring manufacturing back to Canada. Corporate Tax Rate of 15%. PPC has pledged NO Capital Gains Tax. NO Carbon Taxation. NO Tax on Overtime Work. Lower Personal Income Tax, only 3 tax brackets. NO Tax on CPP and EI.
