Tax fairness
Promesses de Green
"Increase the corporate tax rate from 14% to 21% for businesses with profits over $100 million ($44 billion in revenue)." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Introduce a permanent Windfall Tax (Excess Profit Tax) on large corporations, including banks, grocery chains and fossil fuel companies, to prevent profiteering at the expense of Canadians. This tax will apply at a rate of 15% on profits exceeding 120% of a company’s average profits over the previous four years, ensuring that large corporations contribute fairly when they generate excessive gains." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Implement a 0.35% Financial Transactions Tax (Tobin Tax) on trades involving stocks, bonds, derivatives, and currencies. This measure will help curb speculative trading practices that destabilize markets and generate significant revenue for social, economic, and environmental programs."
"Implement a progressive wealth tax on net wealth above $10 million. The tax would apply at a rate of 1% on net wealth over $10 million, 2% on net wealth over $50 million, and 3% on net wealth over $100 million. This policy would impact only .5% of Canadian households." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Strengthen Canada’s exit tax to prevent the ultra-wealthy from avoiding taxes by moving assets abroad. We will apply a net wealth-based exit tax of 35% on assets over $10 million for individuals renouncing Canadian tax residency, ensuring those who have benefited the most from Canada’s economy must contribute significantly before leaving. Loopholes that allow tax avoidance through corporate structures and exempt assets will also be closed." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Ensure fair taxation of extreme capital gains by applying a progressive tax only to profits over $10 million. To prevent wealthy investors from avoiding taxes indefinitely, we will also limit the ability to deduct past investment losses to a maximum of 10 years." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Revise Canada’s Select Luxury Items Tax Act to eliminate the “lesser of” rule and apply a flat luxury tax rate (e.g., 10% or higher on the full purchase price).
» Increase the tax rates for extreme wealth purchases (e.g., higher rates for private jets and superyachts.)
» Close corporate loopholes that allow businesses to buy these assets to avoid the Select Luxury Items Tax.
» Exempt Canadian-made commercial and recreational vessels from the Select Luxury Items Tax, to support small manufacturers and coastal industries."
— Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Close stock options and capital gains tax loopholes, which primarily benefit wealthy executives." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"End off shore tax evasion by taxing hidden funds and requiring proof of foreign business operations." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Review and phase out corporate subsidies that fail to deliver proven economic, environmental, or social benefits, with priority given to eliminating subsidies that:
» Distort markets without improving public well-being.
» Contribute to corporate concentration of key industries.
» Benefit large corporations disproportionately over small businesses and workers.
» Are provided to corporations with majority foreign ownership, particularly U.S.-based firms, undermining Canadian economic sovereignty.
» Fail to pass a cost-benefit analysis."
— Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25
"Increase transparency on business subsidies by mandating full public reporting on corporate tax benefits, grants, and loans — including which corporations receive them and their economic impact." — Change: Vote For It, retrieved 2025-04-25

Biographie
Bruno Sousa is a Green Party candidate deeply rooted in Oakville East. Raised in Falgarwood, educated in Glen Abbey and Joshua Creek, and now living in College Park after starting his family in Palermo West, Bruno knows this community inside and out. His connection isn’t symbolic—it’s lived.
He brings 17+ years of leadership in tech, business, and nonprofit sectors. As an entrepreneur, he’s launched ventures focused on innovation, arts, and digital transformation. As a mentor and community leader, he supports youth through Scouts Canada and amplifies local voices through grassroots advocacy.
Bruno has been a consistent force in civic movements—rallying efforts like Stop the Sprawl Halton, Hands Off the Greenbelt, and local resistance to Highway 413. These efforts weren’t just symbolic; they impacted policy and helped protect the natural and social fabric of Oakville.
Bruno has stood for the Green Party three times—federally and provincially—offering a consistent voice for affordable housing, public health, climate action and community-led solutions. In 2024, he was elected Chair of the Green Party of Canada's Constitutional Renewal Commission, where he is modernizing the party's internal governance and working to strengthen democratic participation across Canada.
Bruno’s campaign stands for affordability, public health, and climate justice—but also digs deeper into the foundational shifts shaping our lives. He’s a fierce advocate for Canadian sovereignty in the age of rising AI, digital surveillance, and global economic volatility. He believes we must build resilient local economies, protect our data rights, and ensure our democratic institutions evolve to meet the realities of the 21st century.
His leadership style is honest, collaborative, and people-first. He’s not here to play politics—he’s here to help Oakville East lead by example.
From Earth Day rallies to bylaws reform, Bruno’s work is defined by integrity, accessibility, and impact. He’s not just campaigning for votes—he’s campaigning for a better way of doing politics: one that listens deeply, acts responsibly, and builds lasting relationships.
Oakville East deserves leadership that reflects its values—smart, compassionate, forward-thinking—and Bruno is proud to be that voice on your ballot.
Raison de la candidature
I’m running because Oakville East deserves leadership that sees the full picture—and acts with courage, empathy, and foresight.
At the heart of my campaign are the people-first issues we all feel every day:
- Affordability, so families don’t have to choose between rent, food, or a future.
- Housing, designed to be livable, connected, and sustainable—not profit-driven.
- Healthcare, that is truly public, accessible, and affordable for all—where mental health is treated with the same urgency as physical health.
But beyond these immediate pressures, I see something deeper unfolding—and I believe we need to face it head-on.
Canada’s sovereignty—digital, economic, and cultural—is at risk. The rise of artificial intelligence, unchecked data surveillance, and global instability pose new threats that our current politics is not equipped to handle. I’m running to challenge that inertia. We must:
- Protect our data and digital freedoms.
- Invest in local economies that can weather global shocks.
- Ensure AI works for people, not against them—with regulation, transparency, and ethical oversight.
Climate change isn’t the only crisis on the horizon. We’re in a moment where leadership must do more than react—it must anticipate, include, and empower.
The Green Party offers the only truly forward-looking platform in this country—and I’m proud to bring that vision to Oakville East. But this campaign is about more than a party. It’s about you—your rights, your well-being, and your future.
Together, we can build a Canada that works—not just for the next quarter, but for the next generation.
