Born and raised in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, Valerie has strong prairie roots and understands the unique opportunities and challenges Canadian rural life holds.

Valerie feels it is important to give voters in the Yorkton—Melville riding an option to vote for a representative that is committed to a greener planet with sustainable, self-reliant local communities.

As a descendant of settlers, Valerie advocates for all levels of government to work alongside Indigenous peoples to help mitigate the inevitable future effects of climate change, as well as create the relationships necessary to accomplish true reconciliation.

Valerie is a professional educator and holds a Master of Education degree with a thesis titled “Treaty Education and Reconciliation: things non-Indigenous people should know but don’t about Treaty 4”, and is committed to helping people and organizations decolonize.

Worried about the upward trend in divisive politicking, Valerie is committed to working towards implementing electoral reform with Proportional Representation. She served a two-year term as a director holding the position of co-chair for Fair Vote Canada, a non-profit, non-partisan organization lobbying for electoral reform in Canada. Valerie wants all voters to feel that their vote counts and to be active participants in their democratic system. She believes that honest, collaborative, transparent work from elected representatives is the only way to reinstill trust in our democracy.
