“I truly believe that leading with a posture of hope can break down the barriers created by fear.”

Tim Binnema is an engineering and business leader, longtime Fleetwood resident and grandfather with more than 25 years of experience in management and sustainable technology.

Tim has called Fleetwood home since 2000, where he and his wife raised their four children. Now proud grandparents of six, they remain deeply connected to the community and focused on the kind of future younger generations will inherit.

Professionally, Tim has spent more than 25 years in senior leadership with a British Columbia-based engineering and equipment supply company. His work has focused on pollution-control and energy-optimization systems, helping bring locally developed sustainable technologies to businesses around the world.

Through his career, Tim has travelled extensively and gained firsthand exposure to how different communities and industries approach infrastructure, energy and complex technical challenges. He brings that experience together with a background in management, engineering and practical problem-solving.

Tim is also committed to lifelong learning and has spent recent years deepening his understanding of Indigenous history, reconciliation and ways to build stronger relationships with Indigenous communities.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys walking, cycling and tending his blueberry, raspberry and vegetable garden. He values staying connected to nature and believes strong communities depend on thoughtful planning, environmental responsibility and opportunities for people to live well.

Tim is running in Surrey-Fleetwood to bring his experience in leadership, engineering and sustainable technology into public service, with a focus on affordability, housing, tax fairness and environmental sustainability.
