I am a semi-retired plastic surgeon & a member of the Canadian Association of Physician for the Environment. I have tried to adopt and embody the 6 teachings of the Musqueam, gifted to the PHSA by Sulksun. I am running for healthy people, healthy communities and a healthy planet.

I am a semi-retired plastic surgeon. I have been in practice in Vancouver for 35 years and have spent my time working as a pediatric and adult craniofacial surgeon at both BC Children’s Hospital and the Vancouver General Hospital. I have cared for 1000’s of patients: people with cleft lip and palate, rare birth differences, trauma victims and people needing reconstruction. I have also worked in Cambodia, the Philippines and Ethiopia. I have been involved in medical committees supporting and promoting quality of care and have been the President of the medical staff at Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

I am a member of the Canadian Association of Physician for the Environment and Doctors for Planetary Health - West Coast. I have taught planetary health to third year medical students at UBC and as a continuing education to my colleagues in various Departments. I do some work with national and international groups as well. I have been an activist with Dogwood, LeadNow, Stand.earth, Decolonial Solidarity and 350, and engaged with municipal, provincial and federal politicians.

As a friend of the late Coast Salish Knowledge Keeper Siem Te Ta-in, Dr. Shane Pointe, I have tried to adopt and embody the 6 teachings of the Musqueam that he gifted to the PHSA. As a humanitarian, I am a member of and support the work of BC Physicians Against Genocide.

I understand that a healthy environment is necessary for a healthy society and that there are many versions of “economy” and that the current version isn’t working. We need a clean environment, and equitable society and a sustainable economy. I think the role of government is to value and support people in a world that meets people’s basic requirements and allows everyone to flourish without causing harm to the planet.

I would be grateful for your support in allowing me to run as the Green Party Candidate in the riding of Vancouver -Quilchena.

Thank you for your interest and support.,

I am running because we face a future of climate change and social inequality. I want to work for the health of people, communities and the planet.

I bring my medical skill set to politics and government. Not the quick headline answer to the sudden reports question - but the skills of listening to understand, investigating and consulting to get the wide range of opinion and ideas, research to understand the facts that underpin issues and decisions that need to be made and an ethic of care. The role of government is to work for the health of the population, the communities that make up BC and individuals who need the support of publicly funded services, resources and infrastructure - in short - everyone.

Everyone needs their health. This requires a clean environment. WE all breathe the same air. We all drink the same water. We all eat what grows up from the ground. We need to tackle climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.

Communities need to be healthy. Social and financial inequality are a cause of harm. We should not have people that are homeless. We should expect social contributions from billionaires. We need to accept diversity and be inclusive. Everyone should have the right to thrive and have a meaningful life in BC.

We have to protect the planet. It is our only home. We humans are part of the biosphere and we need to pay more attention to that and less attention to the technosphere. Technology no longer seems to serve humanity. We are at risk of humanity serving technology. Unfortunately social media has become a source of anxiety and depression for many people. We need to rebuild our connection to the land and to each other.

Government can help set the tone for changes in our culture that will restore our balance with the earth and each other.

I want to be part of that process.
