The recent increase in petty and violent crime is very concerning. The focus should be on both aspects: prevention and punishment. That includes working with Federal and Provincial governments through legislation, addressing the Mental Health aspects and drastically increasing the penalties for all crimes.
On Transit: More service, lower fares, free transit downtown!
Public Transit in Toronto is slowly becoming more expensive while offering less service. We’re going in the wrong direction!
It must be a better option for a family of four to take TTC than to drive for a night out downtown. That means, there should be easy, cheap parking available near the suburban transit hub and lower fares. Free transit in the downtown core would reduce downtown gridlock and pollution.
On Infrastructure: Repairs and refurbishment, not crazy projects
City infrastructure is a lot more than what meets the eye. The 100-year-old water pipes, drainage, sewage, the roads, and the electrical grid is in desperate need of repairs and upgrades. Meanwhile our government officials are talking about crazy, expensive projects such as tearing down the Gardiner.
I believe that issues like Affordable Housing, Homelessness, Drug Addiction are the primary responsibility of the Provincial and Federal governments. Toronto local government must push them to address these issues. They should not burden the residents of Toronto alone.
