Ana Bailão is an experienced leader with a plan to fix city services and build more housing to make life better and more affordable for all Torontonians.

Services. Housing. Affordability.

Ana Bailão has a plan to build a Toronto where every resident, no matter their background or where they came from, has access to high-quality services, an affordable roof over their head, reliable, safe transit, and opportunities to succeed. As a Deputy Mayor, housing expert, city-builder, and immigrant from a working class family, Ana knows how to deliver for Torontonians.

Over thirty years ago, Ana and her family left Portugal and chose to call Toronto home--a city that represented opportunity and possibility for their future. While her father worked in construction and her mother worked as a seamstress, at fifteen years old Ana began learning English and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto. Every night Ana and her mother would take the subway home from her part-time job downtown, because transit was safe and services in Toronto worked.

Ana is running for Mayor because she knows services aren’t working like they should. People are paying more, and they’re getting less. She is committed to building a city where every fifteen year old has a fair chance to build their lives, their families, their homes, and their careers in Toronto, as she was able to. Her background and the opportunities she has had have shaped her love for Toronto.

After building a successful career in the private sector serving as an executive for nearly a decade, Ana began a career in public service. With a grassroots campaign, Ana earned the trust of her community and was first elected as Councillor in 2010. In three elections, residents in Toronto’s west end elected Ana for the same reason: she knocked on doors, listened to local priorities, and delivered results for her community.

Nearly a decade on the Board of Toronto Community Housing and as Chair of Planning and Housing Committee, Ana fought to make sure that building homes and making them more affordable was at the top of the agenda at City Hall. She worked to secure billions in funding from other governments and to get Toronto back in the business of building housing. Today, she’s running to go even further and address the housing crisis by approving and getting shovels in the ground to build more affordable and supportive housing.

As a former Executive Committee member at City Hall, Ana knows the City of Toronto budget inside out - from parks and community centres to libraries and fire halls - and understands that the City should never waste a penny of taxpayer dollars. When Toronto faced an unprecedented pandemic, Ana worked with Council, with local health partners, and with Toronto Public Health to keep people safe and house vulnerable residents in record time.

After serving residents for over a decade and as we turned the corner on the pandemic, Ana took on an affordable housing role with a builder in the private sector.

Ana is a leader with a proven record, and she is ready to roll up her sleeves and work with all of City Council, with other governments, and with community leaders, to deliver for residents. She has her ear to the ground and knows Torontonians expect, deserve, and can have better from City Hall--better services, better transit, and more housing--and she will fight to get it done.
