EARLY ACCESS TO ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT
Volunteering in classrooms, I've seen that the research is right; early intervention is the best, most cost-effective solution to learning difficulties. A shortage of early resources means we defer costs down the road, with interest.
Classroom Funding
Right now, the funding model is under review, and this is the time to advocate for increasing resources for BC children to be in line with the rest of Canada. Our per-child funding is the second lowest in Canada, and suffers from a lack of support for learning challenges.
Reconciliation
Bringing the First Peoples Principles of Learning into schools involves respectfully learning from Canadian Indigenous peoples, recognizing that the way knowledge is passed down has value, and supporting that recognition with resources.
Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Curriculum and Supports
SOGI education in schools decreases bullying and reduces suicides - across all student populations. Students today are aware of these issues from media – factual information about the variety of Canadians they will encounter will help them treat those differences with respect.
Daycare Spaces in SDAYCARE SPACES IN SCHOOLS
Families are challenged to find safe, quality daycare for their children. Renting available district space to daycares brings in money for School District 43, and families get improved access. Co-operating with the province and municipality can maximize this opportunity.<br>
