In her first term as MPP, Sandy proved herself to be a strong local representative.

        As the former Critic for Environment, Conservation and Parks, Sandy has been a fierce advocate for our environment. In the wake of sewergate, she was unrelenting in her search for answers and solutions. Her Private Member's Bill - the Cootes Paradise Water Accountability Act - aimed to provide transparency and accountability.

MPP Sandy Shaw has hosted more community town halls on environment and climate change than any other MPP in Queens Park.

        During the Covid-19 pandemic, she stood up for seniors by advocating to take profit out of long-term care and better regulate retirement homes.

        Sandy has worked with experts to improve health care for all but, especially children in pediatric palliative care at McMaster, and Children's Hospitals across the Province.

She is widely known for her work with progressive organizations like the Social Planning Council, the United Way, and was the first–ever elected female Board Chair of FirstOntario Credit Union.

Sandy graduated from the University of Toronto in Corporate Social Responsibility and built innovative projects such as Hamilton's first micro–loan program and authored Hamilton's first Women and Poverty Report and holds the esteemed Women of Distinction Award for her community leadership.
