As an Independent, I am free from the mediocrity of the major political parties, therefore I am able to provide a common-sense platform that the major parties are not able to provide.
My platform covers five major areas of concern, starting with the economy, something that is out of the NDPs wheelhouse. Many environmental and social issues could be alleviated by supporting and opening the door to new and sustainable businesses in the region.
Action on the environment and climate change preparedness are serious issues that have been adding up and overlooked by our government. The war the Saskatchewan party has declared on the environment in the name of progress must be reconciled. Policies for the environment and Wildfire mitigation is on the table, as well as a petition to repeal Sunday hunting in Saskatchewan.
Modernizing our infrastructure is an ongoing process in Northern Saskatchewan. Whether it be the need for cell towers or safe roads, there is plenty that needs to be done. I will take all of the concerns of the community right to the floor of the legislative building in Regina and be the stronger voice that Cumberland deserves. I would also like to look into revisions or amendments to taxable royalties in our natural resource acts. Initiatives in truth and reconciliation will include being a stronger voice for those who need to reconcile an injustice or settle a claim. I will hold the government accountable for not taking swifter action on the implementation of UNDRIP and propose reconciliatory amendments to the Saskatchewan First Act.
The Safer Communities Initiative is an answer to the problem of violence and crime we are experiencing in our northern communities. If elected, my part will be to petition for more law enforcement and resources to face this crisis head-on. I am also in favor of and support community-based policing initiatives and tightening the laws around gun violence.
Child Poverty is of a major concern for me and a lot of others in northern Saskatchewan. I have proposals calling for the Ministry of Social Services to implement additional support for those on fixed incomes as well as extend benefits for families with children.
The people of Cumberland should vote for me because I understand what we really need, unlike the so-called major party politicians- that are out-of-touch with the people and their communities. We need a grassroots style of politics and representation in Northern Saskatchewan, similarly to what can be provided by an Independent like myself. Just like many others in North-Eastern Saskatchewan, I and my family struggle daily to make ends meet, going hand to mouth, month to month. I feel that having a representee that is in-touch with the every-day realities we mostly all face is vital in our collective fight for a more hopeful future. We should be judging our candidates on their level of dedication and what they bring to the table during the course of the election, which is usually indicative of what they’ll bring after. If that should be the case, then my common-sense platform stands above the rest, as it is tailored to the specific needs of Northern Saskatchewan. My priorities if elected as the MLA for Cumberland is to
• Propose the safer community’s initiative, which calls for staffing-up RCMP and resources in the communities where it is most needed. • Support and implement proposals and initiatives for community policing programs and training.
• Get behind all community Infrastructure requisitions. • Raise supports for those on assistance as well as for families with children.
• Propose amendments to the Cannabis Act to allow for the commercial production of Cannabis on reserves.
• Propose a Rapid Wildfire Mitigation plan and community evacuation strategy for Saskatchewan.
• Propose amendments or revisions to Saskatchewan’s Natural Resource Acts.
• Repeal Sunday hunting in Saskatchewan. • Cut the red tape for the production of Hemp in Saskatchewan.
• Establish environmental policies and environmental regulations in the forestry and mining sectors to conserve and protect the environment.
