Yo, nugwa’am Laqwalaogwa. Gya yu tlan lax TsaKwaLuten, Liqʷiłdax̌ʷ. My english name is Tanille Johnston and I’m from Cape Mudge of the Liqʷiłdax̌ʷ.

Born in our beautiful city to Tammy Johnston (Dick) and Ken Johnston. I was a Penfield, Southgate, Timberline Graduate. I attended the University of Victoria, most recently completing my Master of Social Work degree with an Indigenous Specialization. I currently work as the Manager of Primary Care for the Vancouver Island Region of First Nations Health Authority. I have the privilege of raising my daughter here in Campbell River, and live with my Husband and our two senior dogs. We also have the honour of being caregivers for the John Howard Society’s Full Time Attendance Program. I am passionate about cycling, soccer, volleyball, culture, creativity and equity. I believe in giving back, showing up, and life long learning.

I also have a business, as a passion project that fills my cup, that delivers culturally aware home studies for families looking to bring home children from care or adopt children. I’m dedicated to our community as a whole and also my Nation in our capacity to be self-determining and empower our next generations to be healthy and thriving.

I would be honoured to join the Campbell River City Council and be ecstatic to represent our community members voices in that Council seat!

Indigenous Representation and a New, Younger Voice

If successful, I would be the first Indigenous person elected to the City of Campbell River's Council table. I'm invested in our community, through my roots as a Liqʷiłdax̌ʷ and as someone who was born and raised in this beautiful place we get to call home. I'm keen on a number of things to increase the health and wellness of our community but here are a few to mention:

  • increase childcare spaces
  • better public transit and cycling routes
  • infrastructure to support our thriving city
  • diverse and affordable housing
  • support community health care capacity
