People will be proud residents when asked where they live, because, with our commitment to affordable housing, environment, accessible transportation, overall a sense of safety and fellowship. I see Port Coquitlam being the go to community to live, work and play!
Enjeux divers
Affordable Housing
Upon being elected to city council I would like to address "affordable" by determining what is realistically affordable for residence
PoCo needs carefully thought out development and density with public consultation, transparency and fairness
Help me keep our small town charm!
Arts and Culture
Arts and Culture bring people together. We need to provide the necessary funds and resources for our arts community to thrive.
Not only will this bring people of all ages, races and backgrounds together it will also have opportunity to contribute to our economy.
Community Safety and Security
Talking with the RCMP and with community police administration I think an investment in more community police initiatives would benefit Port Coquitlam greatly.
Community-Building
I want to work on connecting the pockets of neighbourhoods together.
We have diverse communities that don't always interact with each other.
PoCo should celebrate our beautiful small town charm by knowing our neighbours and engaging regularly with each other.
Development and Overdevelopment
There is a strong voice coming from Port Coquitlam residents that we want to maintain our small town charm!
To do so we have to be mindful of our development projects. We need to ensure that we can keep up with density so not to negatively impact residents.
Diversity
Again arts and culture in PoCo will help us celebrate our diversity.
The city could also make steps towards being more inclusive with language and communication in translation of meetings and city materials sent to residents.
Don't let language barriers stop communication.
Drug Use
With the upcoming marijuana legislation the city will need to implement bylaws and communicate with residents on business locations.
Environment & Sustainability
Port Coquitlam has an opportunity to be a leader in environmental initiatives. We can not only meet but exceed our climate change goals! How?
- Reducing water consumption
- banning plastic bags, straws and styrofoam containers/ cups
- promoting green business and technology
Good Governance
Transparency and Accountability!
It should be easier for residents to access meeting minutes with details and how their city councillors voted on specific issues.
We should not have to dig and ask for more information.
Green Space
Port Coquitlam is doing so well with embracing our green spaces.
I believe that we can surpass our canopy goal and strive for 30% rate.
We have beautiful parks and trails for everyone to enjoy. It is about promiting the spaces and reminding people to treat them with respect.
Homelessness
Homelessness exists in Port Coquitlam and although some residents may not see it these people are there and need our support
We need to do what we can to provide support and services for these residents
All Port Coquitlam residents deserve to be treated with dignity and respect
Jobs
Upon being elected into office I want the city to host a job fair to find out what local businesses are hiring and see what residents are looking for jobs
Finding ways to get people to live and work in the city would be a priority. It is good for our economy and the environment
Mental Wellness
Mental Wellness is impacted by overall wellness! Let's ensure all residents have access to housing, food security and a sense of belonging.
PoCo can be inclusive by ending the stigma of mental health and providing support to our friends, family and neighbours who need it!
Parks
We are so fortunate here in Port Coquitlam to have such beautiful parks and trails.
Our job will be highlighting their existence to residence and encoourage everyone to take advantage.
Pedestrian Safety
Port Coquitlam needs bold action and planning around streets, sidewalks, crosswalks and lights.
For the safety and encouragement of cycling and walking we need to make our streets accessible for residents of all ages.
Public Engagement
City Council can engage more with residents by hosting more town halls and events where we can talk and get to know each other.
Notice of town halls and city council discussions could also be going out sooner with follow ups so residents feel they have adequate time to attend.
Public Transit
With a growing population we need green, easy and convienent transportation options.
We need more bus routes and more frequent stops. This will encourage people to get out of their car and on the bus.
We also need to plan traffic flow control so busses are not idle with cars!
Reconciliation
Reconciliation begins with building a relationship with local first nations
We should be building on truth and reconciliation in all our decisions, work and events
Sharing our history, culture, and plans moving forward with first nations in mind will be steps to reconciliation
Recreation
The largest development project PoCo has going is the rec centre. This is going to take ongoing oversight to ensure that we are on time and on budget.
Recycling
Education is key regarding recycling.
It is not only about sorting or what the depots will take it is about reducing waste.
We need to be mindful to what we are purchasing and how we can reduce waste will save time, money and energy.
Let's make PoCo a leader in Green Cities!
Road Maintenance
Residents are concerned with the road maintenance plans being outdated.
I would like for the city to prioritize safety then followed by the worst conditions.
It would be ideal for the road maintenance to be a living plan as problems such as potholes can happen very unexpected
Seniors
Port Coquitlam has a prominent population of seniors. The Wilson Centre is a good gathering place.
The newly built rec centre shall have services and support for our seniors.
I would also like to see programs that connect youth and seniors together.
Small Business
Small business is a great way for us to maintain our small town charm.
Investing in local and small business and encouraging residents to shop local will help our economy thrive.
There is a lot of focus on DT PoCo but I would like to see us support all PoCo local businesses.
Sports and Leisure
Port Coquitlam has a thriving sports community. In support our athletes and teams the city needs to keep up maintenance of spaces
A third turf in Gates Park has been suggested and problems with the second terf have been highlighted
Cost effective ways to address this are needed
Taxes
Port Coquitlam has reasonably low taxes and it is going to be on council to ensure that they taxes stay low yet we are still able to provide the services requested of the city regarding parks, events, roads and density.
Traffic
Traffic Flow Control is one of the top priority of residents I have spoken with.
We need to better plan and take action on how we move in and out of Port Coquitlam and how we connect to the rest of Tri Cities.
More lights and stops are not the best answer it is about efficency
Youth
Youth deserve safe places to go where they can play, learn and build a sense of belonging.
I want to see PoCo work harder to connect youth to arts, culture and community through innovative city programs.
Programs focused on highlighting diversity in youth interests and talents.
