My policies are guided by a simple principle: Vancouver’s parks and recreation facilities are essential public services, and every resident should be able to use them safely, affordably and with dignity.

As a Gastown resident who walks through downtown parks and along the seawall every day, I see both the extraordinary value of our public spaces and the consequences of neglect. Residents should not have to accept dirty or inaccessible washrooms, deteriorating facilities, safety concerns or recreation programs they cannot afford. At the same time, Vancouver’s growing neighbourhoods need new amenities before existing facilities become overwhelmed.

If elected, I will prioritize practical improvements that residents can see and feel. That means renewing aging community centres, pools and ice rinks; maintaining clean and accessible public washrooms; improving lighting, cleanliness and safety in parks; expanding affordable recreation for children, families and seniors; and creating well-designed off-leash areas so dog owners and other park users can share public spaces respectfully.

Our parks must also reflect the people who use them. Vancouver is home to many cultures, languages, ages and abilities, yet not every community has had an equal voice in Park Board decisions. I will support earlier and more accessible public consultation, stronger partnerships with community organizations and programming that reflects Vancouver’s diverse population. Residents should be involved before major decisions are made—not simply informed after the fact.

Climate resilience must also be part of responsible park planning. More shade trees, cooling areas, resilient landscaping, improved drainage and clean-air spaces in community facilities can help protect residents during extreme heat, heavy rain and wildfire smoke. These investments can improve daily life while preparing Vancouver for a changing climate.

Delivering these priorities will require discipline and collaboration. I will work with City Council, senior governments, community partners and local organizations to secure funding, coordinate capital planning and ensure available resources are directed toward the areas of greatest need. I will support transparent budgets, measurable timelines and regular public reporting so residents can see what was promised, what has been completed and what remains outstanding.

My goal is a Park Board that listens, plans responsibly and delivers results—creating safe, clean, inclusive and resilient public spaces in every Vancouver neighbourhood.
