Dairy and pig farmer, Ranald MacFarlane, announced today that he will be running for the Green Party of PEI in District 18, Rustico-Emerald in the 2023 provincial election.
Ranald MacFarlane owns and operates a professional dairy and hog farm with his wife Melanie, and has been a fixture in the local food economy for many years. He has been a tireless advocate for sustainable farming all his life. Ranald brings extensive knowledge of agriculture and animal husbandry to the Green team.
A father of two sons, Ranald cares deeply about creating sustainable options for future generations of Islanders.
"I believe that the rural economy and rural people are driving forces in PEI's overall economy and well-being, and they need a strong advocate in the PEI Legislature," says MacFarlane. "Sustainable agriculture, resilient, prosperous rural communities and a healthy environment are all part of the future I envision for our Island province."
Ranald has been an advocate for farmers on PEI for decades and is currently an executive member of the National Farmers Union - PEI branch.
Ranald is passionate about his vision for farming, land and water protection and caring for the environment, a vision he shares with the NFU, which is the only general farm organization in PEI totally dedicated to ensuring that the family farm is the primary unit of food production, and which has demanded public policy to protect land and water for future generations.
