Biographie

soumis par le candidat ou son équipe
I am the mother of four diverse, talented, sometimes trying but always lovable kids, all of whom have either graduated from or are currently attending school in SD61. I have a wonderful husband and partner who is admirably supportive of my community work.

I am thankful to be a 3rd generation visitor on the beautiful and unceded land of the Lekwungen-speaking people. I would like to acknowledge that the historical stewardship and relationship to the land and territories of these peoples continues on today. I thank them for being caretakers of the land and its resources. As part of the important work of reconciliation, I am proud that we are building better and more enduring relationships with the Four Houses to bring the education of all of our children more in harmony with Indigenous culture and beliefs.

I started my career in education at the age of eighteen, eventually obtaining a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UVic. I was in the classroom as a Teacher-Teaching-On-Call (TTOC) for eight years until I started a family. I enjoyed my time as a TTOC, however, it became a strain on my family. My affinity for numbers led me to do some bookkeeping and this led to a career in accounting and payroll. I have recently transferred the skills from both of my previous roles into a career in human resources as a People Partner with a local technology company. While raising my children, I have been active in the community, serving on the Executive of the Oak Bay Figure Skating Club and the Cedar Hill Middle School Music Parents Association. In my spare time, I love helping out with my daughter's soccer team. I also moonlight unofficially as a taxi driver between schools, the ice rink and the soccer field.

I believe that the experience I've gained in teaching, finance and human resources makes me a good fit for the role of trustee. I'm committed to keeping funds closest to students and finding new and innovative ways to deliver education.

I am committed to:

  • Using my financial experience, knowledge of budgets and negotiation skills to ensure that funds stay where they belong - closest to students.
  • Ensuring equal access to education for all students and work to remove barriers to education in our district including:
  • Protecting actions already in place, such as SOGI 123.
  • Meeting obligations laid out in UNDRIP and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action (TRC) and upholding the local education agreements that the district has signed.
  • Showing what's possible with education by creating innovative solutions to issues that arise in our district.
  • Keeping an open mind by listening and actively seeking input from community members, including students and families, teachers, support staff, the Four Houses, and trustee colleagues to ensure we are making decisions that are right for our students.
