I have been advocating for SD61 students at ground level and the Board level for 9 years. I have been a stakeholder and community builder since my first son entered an inner city school.

I was born and raised in a small coal mining community on Cape Breton Island. My family and community have always been close knit. I have resided in Victoria's Fernwood area since 2005. When my oldest son went to school, I wanted to be as involved as possible in his education.

I began volunteering for everything I could and eventually became the PAC president. I advocated for the needs of vulnerable students in inner city schools by ensuring there were safe routes to and from school, painted murals to deter graffiti and advocated for a music space when the school lost theirs due to overcrowding.

I was asked to join the VCPAC as a director of communications and then I was elected the Chair. As VCPAC Chair I represented all parents in SD61 at the Board Table and advocated for individual families who were in need of assistance.

Frustration. As a parent and parent representative we are sick of dysfunction and bickering. It is time to get to work on equity and education our children.
