I’m running in my hometown of Guelph for the Communist Party of Canada because this country faces multiple crises that the status quo cannot handle. We need real solutions to ensure a livable society for everyone.
26,000 people have needlessly died in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic because policymakers prioritized the demands of business over public health. The bodies of thousands of indigenous children are still being unearthed from the sites of former residential schools across the country, all of them victims of genocidal government policies. Climate change, fueled by the profit-motive of huge corporations, is spreading destruction across entire regions. Amidst all this, too many people lack basic necessities like adequate housing.
The Communist Party of Canada fights for human need, not corporate greed. We want to build one million units of social housing so that homelessness will be eradicated in this country. We want Medicare to be expanded to include pharmacare, long-term care, vision and dental care, and mental health. We want harm reduction and ‘safe supply’ policies to reduce overdose deaths. We want an immediate end to the colonial policing of indigenous people. Treaty rights and indigenous sovereignty must be guaranteed. We want the immediate cancellation of all pipeline projects, and a serious and systemic transition to green energy. And we want a foreign policy dedicated to peace and disarmament. In short, we want people to live and live with dignity. You can find out more by visiting votecommunist.com.
