A life-long resident of Nanaimo, I have spent many years working in social service advocacy, focusing on anti-poverty initiatives and supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. I currently volunteer with Dry Grad, Girl Guides, and the Nanaimo Toy Drive.
I am seeking another term as trustee because I am passionate about public education. I believe in a strong and diverse public education school system that brings together students, families, and community. I advocate for students & those who support them by ensuring varied perspectives have a voice.
In my time as a trustee, I have chaired the Business Committee, the Education Committee, Strategic Directions, and the Professional Learning Working Group. I have been active on many committees, having served on the Long Range Facilities Plan committee, Safe Schools, and the policy committee. Notably, I was part of the Ladysmith subcommittee that helped to put together the proposal to the Ministry of Education for the new school builds that were just announced. I was also the co-chair of the committee that update the district's Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion policy. I am very proud of that work as it was focussed on hearing from students who often don't get represented in district committees.
