Biographie
I started skipping school when I was seven years old. I barely made it through grammar school. I hold an M.Sc. from the University of Vienna and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia. I have spent my work-life at universities and colleges, as a researcher in animal behaviour and cognitive psychology, as a teacher of complex adaptive systems, and as an administrator. For a decade, I served as the director of a university career centre. For the past twenty-five years, I have been a vocal critic of the education system.
Raison de la candidature
“But what we need is that the only men to get power should be men who do not love it[.]” (1)
It may sound strange to people who don’t know me, but my goal is not to win this election. If it happens, good. If it doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world. My goal is to make voters think carefully about the people they want in charge of their children’s education.
Education is too important to be left to people with little experience. Even if they are well-meaning, you wouldn’t want inexperienced minds in surgery, or wildfire control, or the maintenance of your car. Why would we want it in education?
I have spent my entire work-life at universities and colleges. And I have experienced the problems that come up from primary education and secondary firsthand, as a student and as a teacher. We have to think more rigorously what and how we want to teach the generations to come.
