Mark practiced law in West Vancouver, specializing in municipal law, real estate, and land use, before returning to public service. He and his wife Kathy raised their daughter, who is now a highly acclaimed opera singer, in West Vancouver and they continue to reside in their hometown.

He was first elected to the West Vancouver School Board in 1979 followed by three terms on Council and then Mayor from 1991 to 1996. After serving almost 18 years in public office before leaving to focus on his legal career, he was elected again in 2022 and continues to serve the community with the same dedication to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and thoughtful governance.
