Together, my policies are designed to preserve Saanich's ecology, and ensure that it's finances are not a runaway train that leaves both renters and homeowners in the lurch of an unsustainable financial model.

Sasha Izard does everything he can to protect the ecology of Saanich, and to achieve the much needed separation of lobby and state.

A tireless defender, and advocate for the region, its people, and its environment - Sasha worked over many years for the preservation and protection of local ecology in Saanich and the surrounding area.

A believer in the critical importance of citizen journalism, Sasha has with significant research, written over 300 articles on public interest issues; for publications including CRD Watch, Creatively United for the Planet, and as a Guest Writer for Vancouver CityHallWatch.

Created the successful petition to save the Sequoia, the Morioka Cherry, and other trees in Centennial Square.

He also helped kickstart a process to eliminate gas landscaping equipment on residential properties in neighbouring Oak Bay through a three year phase out plan.

Campaigned for close to half a decade for the much needed separation of lobby and state, which has lead to all 8 municipalities on Vancouver Island that were paying members of a powerful lobby for development and real estate, the Urban Development Institute (UDI) to withdrawing their lobby memberships, and to the Regional Government, the CRD, doing the same after 23 years of paid membership in the organization.

Following suit, the District of North Vancouver has also withdrawn its membership in the lobby. The lobby also lost its former permanent seat on the CRD Regional Housing Advisory Committee (RHAC), after Izard questioned the closed nature of the committee. Now, if the committee ever does open again, the CRD has stated that it will henceforth be fully open to public attendance.

Created and worked hard on numerous other petitions, many of which have succeeded, to get important issues of public interest on the table, and to promote positive change for the District of Saanich, the region and British Columbia; to protect the environment, its people, health and heritage.

A Sustainable Entrepeneur

As sole proprietor of a small business in environmental stewardship, successfully pioneered the shift in 2018, to using all lithium-ion battery electric power equipment, offering a proof of concept business model for municipalities to adopt, in order to make highly polluting gas landscaping equipment a thing of the past.

A Friend, Neighbour and Citizen of Saanich

Having grown up in Saanich, Sasha along with his beloved wife, do everything they can to ensure that their daughter is able to grow up and be inspired by the people and nature that have made Saanich such an exceptional municipality. He considers strongly that the future of this region is something that simply cannot be taken for granted and will do everything he can to ensure that is made a safe haven for many species, as well as retaining its natural values and strengths.

Saanich is threatened with losing much, if not most of its ecology during our lifetime. Sasha is determined to prevent this from happening.

The District of Saanich's ecology is in precipitous decline due to what the indigenous Songhees Nation has referred to as "development pressures."

See: My presentation for the June 16, 2026 Saanich Public Hearing regarding the Quadra McKenzie Plan. - Sasha Izard

This situation is unacceptable. The ecology of Southern Vancouver Island is in critical need for preservation before it is lost forever.

In addition, the District's financial position is also in precipitous decline, with the District's debt estimated to rise close to 8 times in only a decade:

A District of Saanich document in 2024 showed Saanich's debt skyrocketing from $54.6 million in 2023 to $424 million by 2033. - Sasha Izard

Couple a precipitously declining ecology, to a skyrocketing debt, utilities and tax increases (and corresponding rent increases for renters) - life is not improving in the District of Saanich, it is getting far worse.

We need to turn this around, and Sasha Izard has a detailed plan to do so:
