Teresa Wat has served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Richmond Centre since 2013, winning re-election in 2017 and 2020. She plans to run for re-election in the Richmond-Bridgeport district in the next provincial election.

Wat has held several key roles, including Shadow Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Multiculturalism. Since 2017, she has been the Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism and a member of the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth.

Between 2013 and 2017, Wat was the Minister of International Trade and the Minister Responsible for the Asia Pacific Strategy and Multiculturalism. She also contributed to the Cabinet Committee on Strong Economy and the Priorities and Planning Committee.

Before entering politics, Wat was the News Director at Channel M Television (now OMNI TV), where she helped launch the first live Cantonese, Mandarin, and Punjabi daily news programs in British Columbia. She also served as the News Editor for Ming Pao Daily News and as President and CEO of Mainstream Broadcasting Corporation, a multicultural broadcasting station. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1989, she had a distinguished career in the communications industry in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Wat's achievements have been recognized with the Grand Officer of the Order of the Crown, one of the highest honours from the Kingdom of Belgium, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award for her community service. She has also been named one of BC’s top 100 most influential women by the Vancouver Sun and one of Greater Vancouver’s top 33 most outstanding Chinese Canadians by Sing Tao Daily Vancouver.
